Being a stupid American, I have no concept of how far something is in kilometers, but it seemed like a fun opportunity to spend time with actual Chinese students (isn't that the point of study abroad???). So I told Bonnie, "Sign me up!!"
Around the middle of May, about halfway into my study abroad program in Shanghai, I started feeling homesick for the sun, sand, and ocean waves of the California coastline. An online search yielded no results for beaches within Shanghai, so I settled on a weekend getaway to the nearby Shengsi Islands.

May 1st is a national holiday in China, so since my dad (who works in Wuhan) had time off from work, we both decided to take advantage of the long weekend by traveling to Guiyang to visit family. I ended up having an awesome weekend full of nature, culture, food, and even (my favorite), animals!
